NEW YORK, September 2008.... Thanks To
Scandinavia, an institute of the American Jewish Committee, awarded
scholarships to twenty-nine top Bulgarian, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian
and Swedish students, for study at twenty different American
universities, primarily on the graduate level.

One-time grants this year will be made for Scandinavians studying at
U.S. universities throughout the country, from Pepperdine to Harvard,
California Institute of Technology to Mannes College of Music.
Scholarships for Scandinavians at Cornell University, the University of
Pennsylvania, the University of Oklahoma, and Columbia University have
been endowed – and will again be awarded this year. These scholarships
recognize the late Lester Robbins (Cornell), Ted H. Greenberg
(University of Oklahoma), Herbert Singer (Columbia), as well as Alice
and Richard Netter (Cornell) and Barbara and Edward Netter (University
of Pennsylvania).

Scholarships in memory of Sanna and Victor Borge were also given at
Denmark’s annual Rebild Festival, celebrating July 4th and the
American-Danish connection.

Thanks To Scandinavia’s work is driven by continued gratitude to and
recognition of those few who participated in the courageous rescue of
Jews during World War II.  Its mission is to build bridges of
friendship among Scandinavians, Americans, and Jews worldwide that
resonate with this history but are vibrant today and into the future.
Thanks To Scandinavia is a scholarship fund founded in 1963 by Danish
entertainer Victor Borge and New York attorney Richard Netter.
